Akrosom je organela koja se nalazi u prednjem dijelu spermatozoida i služi za njegovu interakciju s jajnom ćelijom prilikom oplodnje. Nastaje od Golgijevog aparata tokom spermiogeneze kada se spermatide transformiraju u spermatozoide.[1]

Akrosom sadrži hidrolitičke enzime kao što su:

Prilikom oplodnje, kada spermatozoid akrosomom dodirne primarnu opnu jajne ćelije dolazi do akrosomske reakcije u toku koje se ovi enzimi izlučuju procesom egzocitoze.

Akrosomskom reakcijom postižu se važne funkcije koje određuju sposobnost spermatozoida da oplodi jajnu ćeliju:

  • oslobađanje hidrolitičkih enzima pomoću kojih spermatozoid prodire u jajnu ćeliju;
  • promjena omotača postakrozomskog predjela na kome su receptori odgovorni za interakciju spermatozoida i jajne ćelije.[2][3]
