Devedesete, bile su decenija koja je počela 1. januara 1990., a završila se 31. decembra 1999. godine. Poznate kao "post-hladnoratovska decenija", 1990-e su kulturno zamišljene kao period od revolucija 1989. do napada 11. septembra 2001.[1] Raspad Sovjetskog Saveza označio je kraj statusa Rusije kao supersile, kraj multipolarnog svijeta i porast antizapadnog raspoloženja. Kina se još uvijek oporavlja od politički i ekonomski turbulentnog perioda.[2] To je omogućilo SAD-u da se pojavi kao jedina svjetska supersila, stvarajući relativni mir i prosperitet za mnoge zapadne zemlje.
