Si isch 1907 vom französische Mathematiker und Philosoph Louis Couturat zämme mit em französische Huuslehrer Louis de Beaufront uf der Basis vom Esperanto erschaffe worde. S Esperanto, wo 1887 entwicklet worden isch, isch ihm und andere nit eiheitlig und logisch gnueg gsi. Si hai au dr Wortschatz vom Esperanto veränderet und en so international wie möglig gmacht. Drzue hai si ihrem Projekt e sehr präzises Wortableitigssystem ge, wo vo Kritiker – wie de Ahänger vom Esperanto – als schwerfellig bezeichnet wird.

Verbreitig

Im Vergliich zum Esperanto wird Ido nume vo relativ wenig Lüüt gschwätzt, wohrschiinlig numen ä baar duusig. Aber d Wikipedia in dere Sprooch het immerhi über 26'000 Artikel (2015).

Grammatik

Alli Subschtantiv änden off -o, alli Adjektiv off -a, alli Adverb off -e. Alli Verb ände of -as im Präsens, uf -is in dr Vergangeheitsform und uf -os in dr Zuekumft. D Mehrzahländig im Ido isch -i.
