April 2015 het er bekannt gee, ass er in de Vorwaale vo dr Demokratische Bardei für d Bresidäntewaal 2016 wurd kandidiere.

Dr Bernie Sanders, wo sich sälber as e „demokratische Sozialist“ bezäichnet,[1][2] het am 7. Novämber 2006 d Waal für e Senat gegen e Kandidat vo de Republikaner, dr Richard Tarrant, gwunne. Im Januar 2007 isch er dr Noochfolger vom Jim Jeffords im Senat worde, wo sich nit zur Widerwaal gstellt het. Dr Sanders isch dr ersti Politiker in dr Gschicht vo de USA, wo sich sälber as „Sozialist“ bezäichnet, und äinewääg in Senat gweelt worde isch.[3] Vo 1991 bis 2007 isch er s bardeiloose Mitgliid vom Representantehuus gsi, wo am lengste im Amt gsi isch. Lang het er aber zur Frakzioon vo dr Demokratische Bardei ghöört, bevor er dr Bardei am Aafang vom Novämber 2015 biidräte isch.[4]
