Wasium

Wasium adalah nama yang disarankan untuk sebuah unsur kimia yang ditemukan oleh J. F. Bahr.[1][2] Nama ini diambil dari Wangsa Vasa, Wangsa Kerajaan Swedia.

Pada tahun 1862, Bahr menganalisis mineral ortit—alanit-(Y)—dari pulau Rönsholm di Norwegia dan menemukan sebuah oksida yang dia simpulkan mengandung sebuah unsur baru. Pada tahun-tahun berikutnya, diterbitkan beberapa artikel yang menjelaskan bahwa wasium oksida adalah campuran dari beberapa unsur lain.[3][4][5]

Menurut M. Bahr, wasium ada dalam ortit dari Norwegia dan Ytterby. Bahr juga mengatakan bahwa wasium ada di pulau Raenshohm.[6] Wasium diduga ditemukan dalam mineral wasit, yang merupakan salah satu bentuk alanit.[7]
