Snottit atau snotikel adalah sejenis tikar mikrob yang terdiri dari bakteri bersel satu ekstremofil yang tergantung di dinding dan atap gua dan mirip bentuknya dengan stalaktit kecil, dengan kekentalan mirip lendir hidung. Pada Gua Frasassi di Italia, lebih dari 70% pafa snottit disana diidentifikasikan sebagai Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, dengan populasi yang lebih kecil mencakup arcahea pada klad 'Plasma-G' tak terkultivasi Thermoplasmatales (>15%) dan sebuah bakteri dari famili Acidmicrobiaceae (>5%)[1]

Bakteri-bakteri disana mendapat energi melalui kemosintesis senyawa-senyawa belerang vulkanik seperti hidrogen sulfida dan larutan air hangat yang menetes dari atap gua, menghasilkan asam sulfat. Oleh karena ini, produk buangan mereka sangat asam (mencapai pH=0), dengan properti yang serupa dengan asam baterai.[2]
