Protea /ˈproʊtiːə/[1] adalah nama umum Inggris dan nama botani dari sebuah genus tumbuhan berbunga Afrika Selatan, yang terkadang juga disebut semak gula (Afrikaans: suikerbos). Dalam tradisi lokal, bunga Protea mewakili perubahan dan harapan.
Etimologi
Genus Protea dinamai pada 1735 oleh Carl Linnaeus dari nama dewa Yunani Proteus
