Pallaviciniaceae adalah famili lumut hati yang tersebar luas dalam ordo Pallaviciniales. Semua spesiesnya bersifat talus, biasanya tersusun sebagai kosta (tulang daun tengah) pusat yang tebal, dengan setiap sisi memiliki sayap jaringan selebar satu sel. Semua spesiesnya bersifat dioisi. Keanekaragaman terbesar terdapat di Australasia, dengan beberapa spesies endemik di wilayah tersebut, meskipun spesies yang termasuk dalam famili ini dapat ditemukan di setiap benua kecuali Antartika.[1]

Sejarah evolusi

Salah satu briofita tertua yang diketahui adalah Pallaviciniites dari periode Devon, yang ditemukan di New York. Fosil ini memiliki kemiripan yang kuat dengan genus lumut hati talus yang masih ada, yaitu Pallavicinia, yang menjadi asal namanya.[3]
