Nigella adalah genus dari 18 spesies[1] tumbuhan tahunan dalam famili Ranunculaceae, yang berasal dari Eropa Selatan, Afrika Utara, Asia Selatan, Asia Barat Daya, dan Timur Tengah. Anggotanya dapat tumbuh hingga setinggi 20–90 cm. Daun halus dan segmen daunnya sempit linier hingga seperti benang. Bunganya berwarna putih, kuning, merah muda, biru pucat atau ungu pucat, dengan lima hingga sepuluh kelopak. Buahnya berupa kapsul yang terdiri dari beberapa folikel yang bersatu, masing-masing berisi banyak biji, pada beberapa spesies (misalnya Nigella damascena) kapsulnya besar dan menggembung.
