Cyperus gilesii adalah spesies tumbuhan yang tergolong ke dalam famili Cyperaceae. Spesies ini juga merupakan bagian dari ordo Poales. Spesies Cyperus gilesii sendiri merupakan bagian dari genus Cyperus.[1] Nama ilmiah spesies ini pertama kali secara resmi diperkenalkan oleh ahli botani George Bentham pada tahun 1878 dalam karya Flora Australiensis. Nama tersebut yang diambil dari nama penjelajah William Ernest Powell Giles untuk menghormati beliau yang telah memimpin lima ekspedisi besar di seluruh Australia tengah.
