Acer heldreichii adalah spesies mapel dalam keluarga tumbuhan berbunga Sapindaceae.[5] Secara umum disebut mapel Balkan, mapel Yunani, mapel Heldreich, atau mapel gunung,[6][7][1] spesies ini merupakan tumbuhan asli di Semenanjung Balkan hingga ke arah timur di sepanjang pantai selatan dan timur Laut Hitam.[2][8]

Acer heldreichii adalah pohon dengan tinggi mencapai 20 m (65,6 ft)[9] dengan kulit kayu yang halus.[10] Daunnya memiliki panjang 5–14 cm (2,0–5,5 in), terbagi dalam menjadi tiga hingga lima lobus[9] yang berubah warna menjadi kuning hingga cokelat keemasan selama musim gugur.[10]
