菲律賓語族語言分布，根據 Adelaar and Himmelmann (2005)

菲律賓語族，或稱菲律賓語群，是佐克 (Zorc 1986) 和白樂思 (Blust 1991，2005) 提出的分群構想，統合了菲律賓、北蘇拉威西（除薩馬-巴召語群）和一些巴拉望語言所構成的一個南島語系之下的次群。 [1][2][3] 雖然菲律賓與南島民族擴展的中心──台灣，相距不遠，但菲律賓南島語多達150多種，語言多樣性卻不高，推測早期的多樣性可能隨著菲律賓語言共同祖語的傳播而被抹平。[4]

分類系譜

研究歷史和批評

首度明確以分類系譜提出「菲律賓」分群的是富蘭克·布萊克（Frank Blake）1960年的研究，他將其置於馬來-玻里尼西亞語族的「馬來語支」之下，當時認為馬玻語族是一個語系。然而，布萊克僅僅是菲律賓群島地理範圍內的所有語種集結為一個單一的語群。[5] 正式以理論提出具體的「原始菲律賓語」的，有馬修·查爾斯 (Charles 1974)、特奧多羅·蘭森 (Llamzon 1966, 1975) 及蘭森與特雷西塔·馬丁 (Llamzon & Martin 1975) 等的研究。[6][7][8][9] 白樂思於近二十年後 (Blust 1991) 以佐克 (Zorc 1986) 列入雅美語、桑吉爾語群、哥倫打洛語群等語言的分類為基礎，進一步擴充。

而將菲律賓南島語視為一系譜學分群的假設受勞倫斯·里德（Lawrence Reid）的反對。[10] 同樣地，在馬玻語族之下重建原始菲律賓語的看法也不被里德所接受 (Pawley, 1999; Ross 2005)。[11][12]在近期菲律賓語分類研究上，他針對自科南特（Conant）20世紀初期以來的方法論及理論缺陷上提供了跨學科的論點。包括馬來-玻里尼西亞民族相關的考古学 (Spings, 2003; 2007; 2011)[13][14][15] 和貝葉氏譜系分析 (Gray et al., 2009)[16] 以證實這些語言在歷史上跨群島的擴散及分化。[17] 他認為原先歸於「菲律賓語族」之下的語群應提升為馬來-玻里尼西亞語族的第一分支。[18] 馬爾康·羅斯(Ross, 2005) 早先也指出，由雅美語、伊巴雅特語和伊巴丹語構成的巴丹語群，應視為馬玻語族的第一分支。 而在菲律賓南島語的詞彙創新統計上，亞歷山大·史密斯 (Smith 2017) 認為菲律賓南島語作為分群的證據力薄弱，並總結菲律賓南島語「可能包含多個第一分支，或可能是由創性定義的語鏈（linkage）」[19] 一些支持此觀點的論述見於瑪麗安·克拉默近期的研究報告 (Klamer 2018)，其反對將馬來-玻里尼西亞語族在島嶼東南亞的歷史發展視為單一整體的現象。無論是語言重建、考古發現、人類基因等證據都無法匯聚於單一定點，說明在微觀層面上複雜的人口移動及接觸過程。這說明目前已知或未知的各種語言已證明了傳統樹形結構過於簡單、不足以反映菲律賓南島語言錯綜複雜的區域歷史。[20]

內部分類

菲律賓南島語源自原始南島語的後代語原始馬來-玻里尼西亞語。其中有多個針對內部分群的提案，而最廣為接受的是白樂思 (Blust, 1991; 2005) 和里德 (Reid 2017) 的看法。不過，兩位學者均不認為菲律賓南島語可構成一個單一的系譜分支。

Zorc (1979)

佐克 (Zorc 1979) 早期的分類方式如下。排序大約由南至北，「菲律賓語族」內部可先分為兩大群：北語群，或稱「科迪勒拉語群」，以及南語群，或稱「蘇祿語群」。[21] 要注意的是，一些分群的方式或名稱與現今常見的已有所同，例如「南延伸語群」約是目前較為廣泛接受的中部呂宋語群，而將北芒揚語群歸入「科迪勒拉語群」無任何後續的重建可支持這樣的分類；唯有包含雅美語、伊巴丹語及伊巴雅特語的巴士語群仍為普遍接受。[22]
