Exocelina (лат.) — род жуков-плавунцов (Copelatinae, Dytiscidae). Более 180 видов.

Распространение

Ориентальная область, Австралазия, Тихоокеанские острова[2].

Описание

Мелкие водные жуки коричневого цвета (от красноватого до тёмно-бурого), длина около 5 мм (от 3 до 6 мм), округло-овальной вытянутой формы тела. Усики 11-члениковые. Крылья хорошо развиты. Всегда связаны с проточной водой: маленькие ручьи, заводи у речных берегов. Первоначально виды Exocelina включались в состав рода Copelatus. По результатам ревизии проведённой в 2016 году энтомологами Еленой Шавердо (Helena Vladimirovna Shaverdo, Naturhistorisches Museum Wien, Вена, Австрия), К. Сагато (Katayo Sagata; Papua New Guinea Institute for Biological research (PNG-IBR), Горока, Папуа — Новая Гвинея) и М. Балком (Michael Balke; Zoologische Staatssammlung München, Мюнхен Германия), род Exocelina включает более 150 видов, большая часть которых описаны с острова Новая Гвинея (около 100) и Новая Каледония (36)[2][3][4].
