Hi, I answered several of your questions on the Computing Desk. It so happens that I have previously written some existing GPL'ed software for image processing, manipulation, and handling (mostly application-specific image processing for scientific/engineering customers). But I can definitely see "scan image" being a useful feature to add to my project, which is already licensed under the GPL (so it is free and open-source). I'll take a look at bringing up the web interface applet version (which I wrote earlier and later discarded for lack of interest). I can also see about adding scanner-capabilities to it. If it looks like it'd match your needs, I'll happily send you source and compiled versions. Nimur (talk) 15:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great! :-D Thank you!
Hmm... The Wikipedia article: "Java applet" states that: "It is also trivial to run a Java applet as an application with very little extra code. This has the advantage of running a Java applet in offline mode without the need for any Internet browser" (emphasis mine). How little is "very little" in this case? Would it be more than 5 minutes extra to give your applet this "stand-alone-capability"?
I try to get a grip on possibilities and limitations to my project, therefore I wonder: Do you remember approximately (or could you make a guess at) how big (in kilobytes) was your applet?

Converting from applet into application really is merely a matter of minutes. But actually, my application is sort of the reciprocal: presently, it is a standalone Java program; but its user-interface was intentionally designed for easy conversion into web applet. That feature is not currently active, because my previous target-audience did not need it; and the program has evolved significantly. But it should be reasonably straightforward for me to bring that interface back into operation, ~ 30 minutes worth of effort, (the biggest challenge is squeezing in 30 minutes of good, solid programming-time into my schedule in the next week). Wikisource

Have you told Wikisource about this idea? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:33, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, not yet! (And I have not yet mentioned it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request either). I figure it will be much better to delay my active "fishing for feedback", and to save this projects's 15 minutes of fame, until the idea (Reprintmaker4u.jar) is thought through and developed a bit further.
