About Me
I am currently a senior at Winona State University in my POLS 410: Political Research Seminar Class. I am in the very beginning stage of conducting a research study about determining whether race or socio-economic status plays a greater role in the academic achievement gap between African American Students and their white counterparts. My research population will be public elementary schools in the Minneapolis Public School District. I will be looking at Mathematics, Reading, and English test score for the entire school on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment. I am also considering analyzing the same test scores for a school district in an upper class suburban neighborhood. My hypothesis while still not completely thought out, is that, soci-economic status plays a larger role in the achievement gap, and that African American Students in affluent neighborhoods are very capable of performing as well, if not very close to their white counterparts.
