Russell V. Malo, Lt. (j.g.) was not the original captain of YMS 477. He replaced Lt. Cdr. Griffin (I forget his first name) in about May of 1945. Speeds on the speed chart in the pilothouse were: Standard, 10 kts; Full, 11 kts, and Flank, 14.7 kts. The ship was decommissioned at the Subic Bay Naval Base. Luzon Is., P.I. Originally, she had been scheduled for decomissioning at the Lake Union Drydoc Co., Seattle, Wash. The last captain, Ens. Donald Cryor, had been the navigator, engineering officer and first lieutenant peviously, The ship's complement on the the trip from Guam to the Philippines was two officers, Cryor and Ens. Richard Kinnard and 12 enlisted personel, some of whom were scavenged from other sources to fill out the watchlist. all held under "military necessity." Wayne M. Jacobi, QM3/c was appointed as the third OOD.
