Sofia Esmeralda Morales is a rising actress, currently living in Ontario, Canada. Sofia Morales was born on May 10th, 1996, in Hospital Nacional El Rosales, in San Salvador, capital city of El Salvador, in Central America. She has starred in short films such as Red Chronic, as well as has played roles in theatre in Woodstock, Vermont.

At seven years old, Sofia’s art was submitted into a contest at the Auburn Art Museum, and she was honoured to win, having her art displayed at the museum for a few weeks. Morales was born shortly (4 years) after the end of the brutal Salvadoran Civil War. At the age of 7, Sofia moved to Upstate New York, and four years later to Vermont. After a horrifying biking accident, Sofia was left incapacitated for years, as her father’s company made a move into Quebec, Canada. Four years later, Sofia was accepted to the University of Ottawa, where she now resides obtaining her Honours BA in Public Relations.

Since her early life, Sofia has been a big dreamer, and a fighter. Her family claims her to be the most stubborn person they have ever met. Sofia’s personal life was marked by her well known acquaintance to Jojo (John), and their three year relationship, with disastrous endings. Sofia is author of many poems, as well as recently finished novel Heartbeat. She is also a committed Children Rights supporter.

EARLY LIFE

Sofia, as a child, grew up in San Salvador, El Salvador. Her mother, Dina Morales, is a registered nurse, and her father, Luis Morales, is an agronomist, but breeds water buffalo in Quebec. Sofia was raised by her aunt, Norma, or mama moma, as she calls her since she was a child. When Sofia was three years old, her mother gave birth to a baby sister, also named Dina after her mother. Sofia admits she feels closest to her grandmother, Vilma, or mama mima, as she was nicknamed by baby Sofia. Her grandmother has played a huge role in Sofia’s life, and Sofia says to love her dearly, and be very thankful for everything her grandmother has done for her.

FAMILY

Sofia has younger sister, Dina Amira, three years younger. Dina and Sofia aren’t very close personality wise, but once upon a time, Sofia remembers telling her sister everything. Later, when Morales was twelve years old, her mother gave birth to a little boy, named Gabriel. Sofia and Gabriel are very close, she has been a huge influence in his upbringing. Since he was a baby, Sofia has given him this idea of having two tribes in the family, Dina being part of the enemy tribe, and Gabriel and Sofia part of a joint tribe. As well, Gabriel has adopted many of Sofia’s customs, like her art, as well as watching anime. In 2013, another baby came into the family with the birth of Rafael. The Morales family claims him to be exactly like Sofia when she was little, a little princess, delicate and very demanding.

GROWING UP

Sofia was born in El Salvador, but later moved to New York with her family, and later to Vermont. In 2009, the Morales moved once more to Quebec. Sofia’s father breeds water buffalo at a farm in Central Quebec. The farm produces cheeses, as well as yogurt and meat.

BIKING ACCIDENT

On May 24th, 2009, shortly after Sofia’s 13th birthday, she went on a very dangerous biking trip. Sofia had obtained from her father a horse for her birthday, so she took her bike with a friend, and took the trip up a mountain, in Woodstock, Vermont, 12 miles. The girls were experienced mountain bikers and made it to the stables where Echo, Sofia’s horse was kept, but unfortunately, didn’t have the same luck coming back down back to the house.

On the way down, a mere 2 mile distance from reaching home, as Sofia was going down a hill, she panicked because of the speed she was going at, and attempted to slow down with the help of her breaks. Something went wrong, and Sofia pressed the front break only, went flying, and smashed straight into a boulder in the ditch by the dirt road.

“I don’t know what happened! It was a stupid mistake, usually you only get a few scratches, but bikes hate me! I almost died… It’s weird and hard to think about… I mean I have barely anything to think about, I don’t remember anything from the few months before or after my accident… It’s like having a hole in my memory…” she says in an interview.

Sofia was found by her friend in a bad state. Her face was said to be deformed on the spot, as well as her tongue shredded, and nose fallen off. An ambulance was contacted immediately, and Sofia was rushed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Centre by helicopter, where doctors gave her parents the horrible news that she wouldn’t survive the night.

Morales received multiple reconstructive surgeries, and even though the papers were signed for her organs to be donated, she made it through that night. Sofia remained in state of deep coma for 21 days. Her grandmother rushed up to the U.S. to see her granddaughter and help the family when Sofia awoke. The damage was fatal, Sofia couldn’t walk at first, as well as she had to be retaught how to read, write, and even speak.

Fortunately for us, Sofia remains here, and is now 18 years old.

CAREER

Sofia studies Public Relations at the University of Ottawa, but from a young age, has had a passion for acting. She appeared in her first theatre performance at the age of seven, and later continued in theatres in Vermont, as well as Quebec. Recently, Sofia has signed with agent, and is now represented by AMTI (Angie’s Models and Talent International).
