Sergio Melicio is a multimedia artist with over15 years of field experience. His experience goes from marketing thought design. Melicio started his career in 1985 in São Paulo/Brazil working for an architecture office for one year. After that, he changed his professional field to work in advertising. The advertising agencies environment help Melicio to develop a new prospect of work in the marketing area.
The talent into create and develop pieces like: flyers, packages, ads, logos, storyboards... etc, wasn't enough for Melicio.
With the desire to learn about Marketing, Melicio started his Bacharel College degree at University Anhembi Morumbi in Sao Paulo-Brazil. With this step Melicio had the doors open to started at marketing assistant in a Germany Electrical bulbs Company named Osram do Brasil SA where he used his former archtecture experience to work in the tradeshow development. After 2 years working for the Germany Company, Melicio decided to leave and dedicate more time in the last year at the university to concluded his degree. At his last year at the university with his thesis project, a marketing plan for a fashion company, award him with the 2nd best 1994 marketing plan of Anhembi Morumbi University’s Academic thesis and the best composition, graphics and promotion material content.
With the certificate of Bacharel in Communications and Marketing and his experience in advertising agencies, Melicio got a new job at ABRIL SA CIA in 1993 as a graphic designer. ABRIL SA, at the time, holded the right to produce and develop and distribute Disney and Fox products an as well hold the right to the brazilian MTV.
Last than 6 months working for Abril SA, Melicio was promoting as a product manager in a subdivision of Video and Print products. With the duties to launch 2 new products each month, start from the scratch. The following multi media products was launch:
- Disney Collection - 6 different packages with kids magazines and VSH cartoon
- Video English - 24 different packages with magazines and VHS and tape instructions
- Video English Jr. - 24 different packages with magazines and VHS and tape instructions
- Formula1 Collection - 8 different packages with magazine and VHS races
- Racing is in my Blood - Single about the famous Brazilian racer (magazine and VHS documentary and races)
- Nostradamus Legacy - Single about the life and prophecy of Nostradamus (magazine and VHS documentary)
- Mountain Bike - Single about practices and styles of competition (magazine and VHS documentary)
In the period between 93-95 the division had more than 200% of income increase with these products. An incredible bench mark pointe by the brazilian busines bureau at the time.
On the last quarter of 1995, after trained a group of three product managers, Sergio moved to Florida USA with a student visa assigned to Stetson University where started to study English and finalize his master degree. In one of the school's breaks Sergio went to visit some friend in South Florida and had opportunity to meet and establish some contacts. With some of the network in place, Sergio had a contact with a South Florida newspaper that eventually invited Melicio to start a job as Desktop Publisher, offering him the H1B visa to work in USA and a good job opportunity. That was the first step to a foreign field.
For almost two years Sergio worked for this 64 tabloid pages newspaper doing layout, ads, and illustrations. In the same period Melicio had an offering to start a part time temporary job in another newspaper, a standard 100 pages newspaper (Export Newspaper) in Downtown Miami developing Portuguese and Spanish ads. After this, a a new opportunity as a graphic designer was offered at a Magazine in Downtown Miami. Melicio change the black/white for the nice glossary full colors magazine.
Developing a part time job for another standard newspaper (the Brazilian Post) and working for the magazine, Melicio had been working for the Brazilian community for almost 4 years.
In 1999 a printer bureau in Commercial Blvd call Dynamic Press offered to Sergio a position as a graphic designer. For 4 months Melicio developed flyers, catalogues for Android Watch, Permaframe, Walgreens, Playstation, Gallopeter and etc. At that time Sergio created the terminology "fat finger". The terminology describes an action in a computer keyboard where two keys were pressed at the same time causing a malfunction reaction in the computer. This terminology was well propagate in the printing industry in South Florida and reach many companies in Florida. Currently the "fat finger" is well know in most of the United States.
In May'99 another offer as a graphic designer showed up at an International Internet Company named WorldWideWeb Institute(WWWi). With offices worldwide in Australia, Canada and Brazil, WWWi had a core business in website development, hosting, online marketing and e-commerce. After a month working at WWWi Sergio received his first promotion as a marketing assistant, two month later another promotion as international marketing coordinator dealing with the graphic and promotion content for the all office worldwide. But was in January'2000 that something substantial happened, a promotion for a Multimedia Manager/International Marketing Relations and general director of WWI Brazilian subsidiary of a multinational internet services company with over 50 employees. Developing effective market presence in South America/Brazil as part of the overall corporate strategy, Sergio responsibilities included: sales, design/multimedia and marketing management, directing operations of the facility, planning and administration of the company, plus marketing strategies for two other subsidiaries, Canada and Australia. After several year working between Brazil and USA, Sergio resigned his position and start to work as a logistic consulting for a few years.
In 2005 Sergio decided to go back to the excited field of advertising and manage to set up an interview at an advertising agency in Boca Raton named Green Advertising.
Green Advertising, a division of WPP, at that moment was working only with the real estate industry. The company was looking for a multi task art director with network experience in OS10. The creative director was impressed with Sergio extensive knowhow and experience and hired him to be part of the 10 people art department team.
The digital and online marketing was growing fast and within a few year in the company Sergio proposed an expansion of market and industry for Green. With his previous web knowhow Sergio started the company's web department, and sooner Green started to move to different industries like education, entertainment, hospitality and etc.
In 2010, Sergio decided to go back to school and finished what brought him to USA. When researched for a school to get his master degree Sergio step at DMAC. With a secret passion for animation and character development, Sergio had an interview with, at the time, Department Chair - Computer Animation Andres Del Valle. Andres advised Sergio to continue in the advertising/design field and how hard will be to make the move to computer animation without a computer animation BFA. Sergio got the challenge and in 2014 finished his degree of Master of Fine Arts (Visual Effects) and computer animation, a long journey that increase Sergio's knowledge in 3D graphics and film.
Currently, Sergio works at Green Adverting as a Director of Interactive Media. Sergio manages the company's web department and supports the information technology and 3D animation needs of the company TV studio and its clients.
