Heart n Soul

History

Heart n Soul are a Creative Organisation that believes in the power and talents of people with learning disabilities. Founded in 1986 (and working across all medias), this year 2016 marks Heart N Soul's 30th birthday with celebrations in September. These will begin with The Beautiful Octopus Club, [1] which has been based at The Albany, Deptford, South London since it started [2]. Octopus started in 1985 and is now an annual event at The SouthBank centre.

Present Day

Although taking place exclusively at SBC in most recent years, Octopus has the capacity to go anywhere with a capacity for 3000 people!! The 2015 club night was attended mostly by Londoners but also included those from international destinations. Zones within the Club included Art, Agozie led by Ifeoma, a visual Artist of Nigerian heritage, making African art and working alongside Ben Conorrs, [3] Clubbers that night created mask outlines for colouring and this zone proved very popular. Past zones have included Sound Lab, for digital music making and there is always a Chill Out area. Another popular club night activity has been the Game Just Dance, projected on to a big screen and in permanent residence is the Dressing Up zone, originally known as the Unique Boutique.

Aimed at adults, The Club's younger sibling Squidz, is for punters aged 10-25, with an entry fee of £5 and also taing place always at The Albany.
