Joseph Harris (born 1976) is a British academic. He is Professor of Early Modern French and Comparative Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London. In 2019/20 he was Visiting Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies.
Harris's primary research focuses on the literature and theatre of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Europe, particularly France. His monograph Misanthropy in the Age of Reason: Hating Humanity from Shakespeare to Schiller traces the theme of misanthropy in European literature from the late sixteenth to the early nineteenth century.
He is brother of the playwright Ed Harris.
