Re:Search Re:Source @ Emergency Festival!

Emergency Festival! sebuah darurat dua minggu is a 11-days multi-arts project that
featured exhibition, screenings, theatre performances, presentations and participatory events,
with explosions of histories, images, narratives and sounds from the First Malayan Emergency
from 1948-1960, presenting new perspectives, offering an intriguing re-examination
and creative storytelling of the Malayan Emergency.

Re:Search Re:Source is one of the component of the festival that featured
presentations, performances and participatory events throughout the 11-days.
The approach and framework of Re:Search Re:Source is:-

* history as a construct that can be constructed, deconstructed and reconstructed.
* history to be/can be participatory and creative.
* exploring the lines between fact, fiction, fantasy and memory.

With that,We!Will!Wikipedia! The Emergency! was a participatory event in which throughout the duration of the Festival, students, bloggers, journalists, geeks and members of the public will be engaged to create, contribute and edit Wikipedia entries related to the Emergency years.

11 days of the festival x 6 hours per day
= 66 hours of Wikipedia magic

We are interested in looking beyond the usual entries associated with the Emergency period such as the anti-colonial struggle, the Communist insurgency, the colonial British government etc. but also to include other events and different perspectives of that same period - the arts (paintings, songs), the film industry, the society etc.
Why Wikipedia? Wikipedia has now become the most frequently used, if not only source for researches. The issue of reliability is not of focus here as Wikipedia already has various policies and mechanisms to keep that in check, but instead is that people become merely consumers of Wikipedia and its resources, thus our aim is that people to be contributors as well. Everyone can and should participate in contributing to history, be part of it and sharing should be a two-way communication, not one.

With the conclusion of the Emergency Festival, we would like to thank all those who has contributed to the We! Will! Wikipedia! The Emergency! sessions.
