'Daniella Sya Yeng Yeng (born 08 August 1988) is a Malaysian actress, radio DJ and model. Sya has worked extensively in Malaysia and Singapore, and recently in Indonesia.
Career
Sya began working as a model at the age of 16, appearing in commercials and magazines. Her first acting role was as a supporting actress in Bezanya Cinta at the age of 20.[1]
She had a show on Astro Hitz.tv called SPIN, and also featured in the Drive & Seek interactive short film by Mercedes Benz. In 2013 Sya was made an ambassador for Yahoo Malaysia.[2]
Sya earned another role as a supporting actress on Singaporean miniseries Keong Saik Street in 2012. The following year she got her first lead role as police officer Tan Siew Lan on crime drama Mata Mata, following the fictional lives of female police officers in 1950s Singapore. In 2014 she played beach patrol officer Jenny on another Singaporean television series called S.O.S. (3). In the same year she joined Lush 99.5FM as a DJ for Lush Mornings with Daniella Sya [3]. She had worked as a DJ previously in Malaysia at Red FM and Lite FM [4].
In 2017 Sya appeared in Malaysian television series Miss Captain Cikgu Waiz (a drama focused on pilots) [5], Indonesian action miniseries DO(S)A [6] , as well as telemovie Jongkong [7].
Personal Life
Sya was born in the Malaysian state of Kedah, but raised in Kuala Lumpur. She is bilingual, speaking both English and Malay [8] .
In March 2015 a Facebook post by Sya went viral where she complained about receiving a text message from an Uber driver she received a lift from two weeks before, attempting to make casual conversation with her. This was the seventh time something like this happened. Following support and responses from people sharing similar incidents on the post, Sya made a formal email complaint with Uber. The company apologized for the incident, suspended the driver, and launched an investigation into the incident. [9]
