Michael Hadskis ~ Carleton Mississippi Mills Candidate
In the upcoming Ontario Provincial election on October 10, 2007 there are 5 parties (5 candidates to choose from). Some vote the same party no matter the previous governments' record, the other candidates or the candidate representing their party. Other people research, debate with family and in the end select one party or one candidate because of what they support, a policy promised by the particular party or they support a candidate because of a particular characteritic or trait. This upcoming election is not without controversy. Hot topics provincially include education, health care, the environment among others. Locally there are also some hot topics: Norm Sterling's previous record, the Carp dump (disaster), property tax, and the complexities and consequences of expanding communities. This article will look at one candidate: the NDP candidate, Michael Hadskis.
So, who is Michael Hadskis? He is a long time resident of the Stittsville area and he is bilingual. He worked for several years as a union negotiator with experience in collective barganing, staffing, benefits and counselling for the Carleton Board of Education which eventually became the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Education during the "Harris" years.
In his nomonation speech at the Mlack Arena on September 9, 2007 he said "In a society as affluent as ours, it is shameful that there is such a disparity between the affluent and those less fortunate when it comes to basic, equal human rights."
If elected he would support the following (taken from his nomination speech): 1) He does not support the Carp dump expansion, 2) He has pledged to deliver a stable and predictable property assessment system in Ontario, 3) He pledges to enhance a publicly funded and delivered health care system and boost the number of nurses in the province, 4) He plans to provide clean, green energy that addresses current environmental threats.
If elected to government he would also support a $10 minimum wage to help hardworking families. For more details regarding this interesting candidate for Carleton Mississippi Mills check http://www.cmmndp.ca
