Robyb has a passion for her gaming hobby. Her earliest recollection of playing a video game is from c. 2002, playing Total Annihilation on her father's PC. Early childhood favourites on the PC also included Rome: Total War, Halo: Combat Evolved and Call of Duty.

The streamer was introduced to console gaming in c. 2005; while visiting family in Ottawa, her older cousin Cat showed her Animal Crossing on the GameCube. While her earlier consoles mainly included the GameCube and PlayStation 2, it wasn't until she received an Xbox 360 on Christmas 2007 that she would truly delve into the gaming hobby. Robyn played many of her favourite games initially on the Xbox 360, including Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Fallout: New Vegas, Just Cause 2 and more.

The kickhats channel was first created on 26 October 2013. The first years of the accounts' life, it was barely used, with viewer counts peaking at 30 due to kickhats being the only English-speaking Euro Truck Simulator 2 streamer that was live at that time.

kickhats began streaming more regularly during the dark times, while completing her BSc Cyber Security & Networks degree. The majority of surviving clips and VODs of 2020 kickhats are speedrun attempts playing Where's Waldo for the NES.

kickhats began connecting with Dead by Daylight (DBD) streamers in March 2021 by following channels such as Staggiez and Slate. Through these livestreams, she found a wonderful, unnamed, community of DBD streamers and chatters. Later in the year, after streaming DBD herself very often, kickhats accepted an invitation to join Limmy's Twitch stream team "Chitchatters"; the team was disbanded weeks later.

Music has always been very influential throughout Robyn's life, with some early favourite artists including Metallica, McFly and Miike Snow. By her teenage years, her musical fascination for electronic music had grown significantly; artists such as deadmau5, Skrillex and Feed Me were early and longstanding favourites.

As a young adult, kickhats discovered the midwest emo genre, and became a fan of the likes of Mom Jeans and Remo Drive; however this was a short-lived interest as the next musical obsession started to take form in 2020. A long-time friend of kickhats introduced her to 100 gecs by jokingly quoting their single "Money Machine", which kickstarted Robyn's complete love for the hyperpop and glitchcore genres.

Born on 13 April 1998 in Aberdeen, Scotland, Robyn grew up in Conwy and Aberdeenshire until 2016. She now resides in the Scottish Highlands. She currently works as a Multi-Skilled Infrastructure Engineer at a global IT consultancy firm.
