VOTING IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a Florida resident.
  Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  You can't be convicted of a felony without your civil rights having been restored.
  Must be adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state.
  Must be 18 years or older.
  Must Provide your current and valid Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification card number. 
  You must provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number if you do not have a Florida driver’s license number or a Florida identification card number. 
  If you don't have any of these items, you must mark the box indicated on the Voter Registration Application as “NONE.”


HOW TO APPLY TO REGISTER TO VOTE

 Fill out the Voter Registration Application online. Also, you may print the application out and write your information in with a black ballpoint pen.
 2. Print the application out.
 3. Confirm that all of the information on your application is finished. The office where you register at, your decision not to register, you’re Social Security Number, you’re Florida driver’s license number and your Florida identification card number will stay private and it’ll be used only for voter registration purposes.
 4. Signing your application is also essential. The application requires an original signature because you are swearing to an oath.
 5. Put the application in an envelope with a first class stamp.
 6. Mail the application to your county Supervisor of Elections. You may also opt to mail or hand deliver the application to any Supervisor of Elections' office in the state, an armed forces recruitment office, a voter registration agency, driver’s license office, or the Division of Elections.
 7. If your application is finished and if you qualify as a voter, the Supervisor of Elections will mail you a voter information card as official notification that you are now registered to vote. Make sure all of the information on your card is correct. If you do not receive your card within 8 weeks, or if you have any questions, call your Supervisor of Elections.
 8. You must be registered for at least 29 days before you can vote in an election.

HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE

1. Meeting the criteria to register. You can pre-register at 17, but you can’t vote until you turn 18. You must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Florida, not a convicted felon serving time or on parole and not currently judged mentally incompetent by a court of law will not be eligible to vote.

2. Access the online application.

3. Finish the form online before you print it, or print the form first, and then fill it out. Be sure to use black ink and print clearly.

4. Provide a valid Florida driver's license number or Florida State ID card to verify your identity. If you do not have either of these, you MUST provide the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you do not have any of these forms of identity, write "NONE" in the box.

5. Signing the form. The application to register to vote cannot be complete without a valid signature.

6. Mail the completed, signed form in an envelope using a first class stamp to your county Supervisor of Elections. You can find the address online at the website given below or call the toll free hot line.

7. Register at least 30 days prior to the election in which you want to vote.

8. Receive your voter identification card in the mail once your application is complete and you are eligible to vote.

9. Contact your county Supervisor of Elections if you have any questions or if you haven’t received your voter identification card within eight weeks.
