Indrema
Indrema Corporation is an American multinational video game developer, publisher, and hardware company headquartered in San Jose, California. They are best known for their video game consoles and open-source hardware and software. They also own major franchises such as Snark!, Fallout, Tomb Raider, XSona, Astro Armadillo, and Minecraft. They are also the main developer of DVOS, a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux designed for TV.
Founded in 1986 by Brett Gildred, Bobby Levine, and Don Howard as a software company, Indrema rose to dominance with their unique business model of releasing software from lesser-known developers for computers. Starting in 1991, they expanded to hardware, creating video game peripherals for personal computers in a partnership with Advanced Gravis, creating the SpacePad lineup.
One of their most notable hardware products are their video game consoles. the Indrema Portal, a home video game console released in 2001, well known for its lower barrier to entry for independent developers. Despite the initial skepticism, it sold 25 million units by 2007 and began a line of newer consoles. They have also been developing handheld game consoles, starting with the Ion in 2004.
