Robert J. DeAngelis
Robert DeAngelis is a lawyer by training and a part-time fly-fishing instructor by choice. He tells people, "Go hire a guide and go fishing. But when you get in the boat the first thing you need to be able to do is cast. You've got to get the fly out of the boat and not hit the guide. Don't let yourself not go fishing just because you're not a great caster, but you need to have some basic fundamentals or it's no fun."
Robert lives in Louisville, KY and has been trying to scare up bluegill on farm ponds inthe central part of the state since the late 1980’s. Robert John DeAngelis (born in Chicago in 1961) spent most of his youth in nearby Lexington, KY. He graduated from Northwestern University and received a law degree from the University of Kentucky. He then married and moved to Louisville, where he joined a law firm and started a family. Robert developed an interest in fly-fishing during his early twenties and later this past-time served him well as he sought solace during his divorce. In recent years he has focused his fly-fishing energies on guiding in locations such as Depuys Spring Creek and theYellowstone River in Montana and fishing in the Florida Keys. His enthusiasm for fishing and teaching have made him one of the most well respected instructors in the East. Robert teaches private lessons and casting clinics at fly shops in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio where also works with Boy Scouts from several councils. He and Dusty have been teaching together for six years, first at L.L. Bean’s Fly Fishing School and currently at The Wulff School of Fly Fishing in New York. They also teach casting workshops on a regular basis at the annual Federation of Fly Fishers Conclave. Robert is a Life Member of the Federation and an F.F.F. Certified Casting Instructor. He is also a member of the Scott Fly Rod Pro Staff.
