I am Heather Howley and I have a conflict of interest because I am the subject of this biography. I will propose edits based on independent reliable sources and will not add promotional content.

Heather Howley is an American helicopter pilot and business executive. She is the founder, chief pilot, and chief executive officer of Independent Helicopters, a helicopter flight training and aviation services company based in New York.[1][2][3]

Early career

In interviews and profiles, Howley has described deciding to pursue aviation after travel experiences in the early 2000s and then completing helicopter flight training in Southern California while working to support herself.[1] [4] She later worked as a helicopter flight instructor, including at flight schools that subsequently closed or changed ownership, experiences she cited as influential in launching her own company.[4]

Independent Helicopters

Howley founded Independent Helicopters in 2008.[1][5] The company began operating out of Stewart International Airport and later expanded to operate additional flight training and aviation services at Saratoga County Airport in 2013.[1] [2][3]

Certifications and aviation work

Howley holds advanced pilot certifications and has served as a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), conducting pilot certification tests on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration.[5] She has also been described in published profiles as a CFII and ATP-rated pilot with thousands of flight hours.[5]

Recognition and other activities

Howley has been featured in business and aviation media for entrepreneurship and company growth, including expansion efforts involving aviation facilities at Stewart International Airport.[6] In 2024, the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC) announced that she joined its board of directors.[7]
