QUITNESS”- A term coined and used heavily in Cleveland, Ohio in the wake of basketball star Lebron James’ "Decision" to join the Miami Heat instead of re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, with whom he had spent his formative years in the NBA (2003–2010). Quitness is a parody and fair use of the WITNESS ad campaign that athletic shoe manufacturer Nike ran featuring Lebron James.
The term QUITNESS made its first appearance on television in t-shirt form on the morning of Friday July 9, 2010 when all six members of Colin Dussault’s Blues Project Band wore Quitness t-shirts designed by Colin Dussault during a live performance on Cleveland’s Fox News Morning Show.
Dussault had the Quitness logo and design (consisting of the word Quitness combined with the likeness of a basketball player with outstretched arms) copyrighted, trademarked and registered with the United States Copyright office and Ohio’s Attorney General on May 20, 2010 (First date of Publication listed as May 14, 2010), Registration #VA 1-721-639. Dussault and illustrator Larry Weber conceived the idea for the Quitness logo and design as a reaction to Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers appearing to simply "quit" on the court against the Boston Celtics during the 2010 NBA Playoffs.
