Jeffery Olney (born 1956 in Boone, Iowa) is an American professional billiards player and pool cue maker.


Life Story

Olney started playing billiards and snooker in the early 1970s. In 1978 he joined the The United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. From 1978 to 1991 Jeff competed against San Diego's finest players, including "Morro" and the late Jay Swanson. Throughout the same time period Jeff collected cues from some of the worlds greatest cue makers. Jeff has a personal collection of cues that contains Szamboti, Black, Schrager, Tad, Gina, Spain, Scruggs, early Schon cues among many others. He began making cues for sale in 1992 in a garage attached to his home keeping his local orders under a one year wait. In 2008 he shutdown his business and website. Three top players from Nebraska use Jeff's cues, but most of his cues never leave his home state. He sold the cues primarily to Iowa league players and friends. Competed in the 1995 Iowa and Midwest Open taking first in both tournaments.

  • Led Sudbury Wolves with 94 points at age 18 in 1973-74.

  • Was available in 1974 NHL Amateur Draft because of league's decision to allow drafting of underage players that year
  • Signed five-year contract after 1974 draft.
  • Reported to 1974 training camp 22 pounds overweight.
  • Scored hat trick in 1974 preseason game vs. Detroit in Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • His first NHL game was also first game in Washington Capitals franchise history.
  • Number 16 (Washington)& Number 9 (Los Angeles)
  • Suffered concussion in collision with St. Louis Blues Garnet "Ace" Bailey during a Dec. 7, 1974, game at St. Louis.
