Electrical
Transformer An apparatus for reducing or increasing the voltage of an alternating current.
Panel Schedule Electrical Panel Schedules are used in electrical design to assign a device a circuit breaker designation. They are also used to calculate the kilowatt load so that the distribution equipment (typically a panelboard) can be sized correctly.
Disconnect is a box where the power can be manually disconnected. The disconnect form is also used for the heavy duty safety switch.
Utility A company that performs a public service; subject to government regulation, ie; electric, water, gas. Note: It is important to document the shut off locations for these services in case of an emergency.
Switchboard or switchgear is used in association with the electric power system, or grid, refers to the combination of electrical disconnects, fuses and/or circuit breakers used to isolate electrical equipment. Switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream.
Motor A machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. When an electric current is passed through a wire loop that is in a magnetic field, the loop will rotate and the rotating motion is transmitted to a shaft, providing useful mechanical work.
Generic A form used to document electrical equipment that does not apply to any of the other electrical forms.
Generator A device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, generally using electromagnetic induction.
UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply A battery powered power supply unit that is guaranteed to provide power to a computer in the event of interruptions in the incoming main electrical power.
Transfer Switch Allows switching from a primary power source to a secondary or tertiary power source and are employed in some electrical power distribution systems.
Motor Control Center(MCC) is an assembly of one or more enclosed sections having a common power bus and principally containing motor control units.
Combo Starter is a motor starter that has some sort of motor protection within its circuitry such as fuses or circuit breaker and are generally found in a Motor Control Center.
Mechanical
PTAC A packaged terminal air conditioner (often abbreviated PTAC) is a type of self-contained air conditioning system.
Boiler An enclosed vessel in which water is heated and circulated, either as hot water or as steam, for heating or power.
Condenser A device for reducing a gas or vapor to a liquid.
Air Conditioner An apparatus for controlling, specifically lowering the temperature and humidity of an enclosed space.
Cooling Tower is a heat rejection device, which extracts waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature.
Pump A pump through which fluid is conveyed by direct contact with a moving part of the pumping machinery.
Chiller is an air conditioning unit primarily used in commercial and industrial facilities to provide high capacity HVAC control, a chiller differs from a air conditioner in capacity and size.
Tank A large, often metallic container for holding or staring liquids or gases.
Heater is an object that emits heat for the purpose of achieving a higher or warmer temperature.
Generic- Mechanical This form is used for items that do not fit into any other categories listed on other forms.
Drawing DWG- A DWG is a drawing used for the construction a building, it is a CAD file and cannot be opened without some type of AutoCAD software.
