Umang Gupta (born 1950) is an Indian-American engineer, businessman and millionaire philanthropist.
Umang Gupta current Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Keynote Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: KEYN) since December 1997. Keynote Systems is a Silicon Valley, California Company that employs 307 people and has revenue of $79.9 Million as per Forbes.com. The company develops and sells services, hardware and software to measure, test, assure and improve the quality of service of the Internet and of mobile communications.
In 2000 Umang was honored with of the Asian Pacific Foundation Award for Civic Leadership and Philanthropy. Apart from his professional activities, Umang has previously served on the board of the Peninsula Community Foundation, California, USA based public charity that builds investment and involvement in community. Umang along with his wife Ruth continues to devote time to PARCA, the Peninsula Association of Retarded Children and Adults, a non-profit organization in the Bay Area of California. He also has an avid interest in history and serves on the Board of the San Mateo Historical Association. Umang is the current Chairman of the IIT Kanpur Foundation and Board Chairman of PanIIT USA.
He was the founder and Chairman and CEO of Gupta Technologies, a client/server database and tools company, from 1984 to 1996. After working seven year at IBM, in 1981 Umang Gupta joined Oracle Corporation as their 17th employee and served as Vice President and General Manager of the Microcomputer Products Division through 1984. At Oracle he is accredited with writing the first business plan for the company. Umang has also been an active investor and advisor to a number of Silicon Valley start-up companies including serving on the Board of Trustees of Mosaix, a publicly held call-center systems company from 1997 to 1999 until its sale to Lucent Technologies.
Umang Gupta holds a Bachelor of Technology degree (1971) in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, and an M.B.A. degree (1972) from Kent State University in Ohio, USA. In 1996, Umang received the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur for his outstanding contributions to Information Technology and entrepreneurial achievements.
