"The Sailor Boy and the Falcon" (Opera) Was an opera composed by Dr. Paul Siskind. The libretto was written by Dr. Alan Steinberg and the show debuted at the Crane School of Music in SUNY Potsdam under the direction of Dr. Carleen Graham. The show was debuted in it's entirety November 16th - November 19th 2006 and was used as both an opportunity to educate students enrolled in the college as well as a fundraiser for the Crane School of Music's Snell Theater. The show raised a total of $18,382 to be used for theater updates. Alumna and renowned Metropolitan Opera star Stephanie Blythe returned to her alma mater and starred in the performance as Sunniva. The other characters were filled by students at the Crane School of Music and main roles were double casted. Simon, the sailor boy, was played by both Shaun Cunningham and John Reagan. The falcon, a transformed version of the Blythe's character, was played by Caitlyn Dougherty. Simon's love interest, Nora, was played by Laura Osgood and Alison Devery. Playing the part of the Russian sailor Ivan was David Burt and Robert Mellon. The story was based on the short story "The Sailor-boy's Tale" written by Isak Dinesen.
