Dee & Friends in Oz is a new CG-animated fantasy musical series re-telling the classic tale of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for Netflix. It's scheduled to release globally on February 5, 2024.[1][2]

Produced by 9 Store Media Group and Brown Bag Films, and animated by its Dublin and Bali studio subsidiaries, the series is inspired by the 1900 children’s fantasy novel and has been adapted for the first-time in a series format for a preschool audience.[3]

Premise

The series follows a young girl named Dee, who discovers a wonderful magical land of Oz, where she meets new friends and is challenged to save the day, and save Oz![3]

Production

The series is produced by frequent Netflix collaborators 9 Story Media Group and Brown Bag Films. The duo previously worked on Karma’s World for Netflix, which ran for four seasons and also saw the release of two volumes of Karma’s World Music Videos. Brown Bag Films worked on Netflix’s Ada Twist, Scientist, Ridley Jones, and Angela’s Christmas.[2]

On September 28, 2023, Netflix announced the green-lighting of the series with an exclusive unveiling from The Hollywood Reporter.[4][5]

The launch of Dee and Friends in Oz also signals a milestone for the iconic Oz property, marking the first-time the beloved IP has ever been adapted and reimagined in a series format for a preschool audience. [6]

Music

The show's music is mixed by Beatstreet’s Matt Longoria, while David Britton handled the sound design.[7]
