Attila the Hun By: Luke Carr

The dictionary defines conqueror as, “to gain by force of arms: win”. This defines Attila the Hun quite well. He was a great conqueror and ruler. He almost took over Rome. He Also was also known for being a ruthless yet strategic man emperor and ruler. Attila the Hun’s upbringing and adult like was one of royalty and pride. In 406 a great ruler was born. That ruler’s name was Attila. Attila most likely went to school where he learned to fight. Little is known of Attila’s childhood but that doesn’t distract from him being a great ruler. Attila’s father, Ruga,, also had some accomplishments. He had the Roman Empire paying him a fine to keep him out of their country. Attila’s adult life was one of adventure and action. He became Emperor of the Huns with his brother Bleda. His brother forced the Roman Empire to continue the fine of gold and realize the huns were still a threat. But Attila had his brother killed and 444 because he thought he wasn’t controlling the Empire right. In 445 Attila was made the only ruler of the huns. Attila then took over the country of Gaul, which is now mostly France. Attila moved with his army so he never has one place to call home. He was always on the move. Attila then received a ring from Honoria the Princess of the Roman Empire. She was trying to gain more power and when Attila accepted he was trying to gain power too. They were never married officially because the king of Rome disapproved of it. Attila had 18 wives. Attila was in a good place to take out the Roman Empire when famine wiped out his troops. Attila then dies in 453. Soon after in 476 the Roman Empire fell. Even though Attila had a short life, he accomplished a lot. Attila the Hun achieved great military honors and united the Huns. The most known thing of Attila is that he almost took over the Roman Empire. It was important to the people at the time because if Attila took over the Roman Empire there would be a new ruler. Attila learned how to control any army along with a nation. Attila was infamous with Romans because he pillaged, looted, took over countries and weakened the Roman Empire. His accomplishments definitely had impact in his time and how they would eventually end up. Although Attila didn’t totally take out the Roman Empire, he was on the brink of it. If he wouldn’t have weakened the Empire they might not have fell until a later time and there could be a lot less or more countries in the world. Attila might not have an affect on life today but he might have been the cornerstone of why the Roman Empire fell. Attila was a great ruler and we should still remember him today. Attila the Hun almost defeated the Roman Empire many times. He accomplished almost overthrowing this great Empire. Attila helped society move on. He moved society on so other countries could move on. He was a great ruler and also was the greatest ruler of the Huns. Who knew a ruler from 1600 years ago could be so interesting. He is an interesting person to study.
