Dwight David Chavez was born at San Diego County Hospital on Election Day, Tuesday November 6, 1956 and is a resident of San Diego, California. His father is John Chavez and his mother is Sara Chavez. His father is a decorated Korean War veteran who passed away in 2010 while residing at the veteran’s home in Chula Vista, California. His mother was a homemaker and passed away near her home in northern California on August 9, 2013.

Dwight is a professional Jazz Guitarist and performs in public occasionally. He also teaches music privately. His love of music began early in life as his mother always had a guitar and piano in their home. Throughout his formative years his parents provided private guitar and piano lessons. As a student at Palomar Elementary School in Chula Vista, Dwight participated in school plays and talent shows. His love of music led him to continue singing in the Castle Park Junior High School glee club. While in high school Dwight was a member of his church choir and later became the choir director. He often is heard saying, “Music puts us all in touch with universal things; it’s a human yet celestial activity and experience.”

Dwight married his high school girlfriend, Elizabeth Cuadras, right after high school and they have three sons, David, Michael, and Aaron. He divorced his wife after twenty-seven years and has not remarried.

In 1989 after college, Dwight worked a short time as a legal researcher and investigator. He quickly became dispirited with the adversarial legal system and began a Mediation and Conciliation practice that he continues today. Dwight has worked as a financial officer for non-profit corporations.
