Hello everyone, I am creating this page to share my experiances with the Linux Operating system. Until this point in time I have not used this operatiing system and want to take advantage of the power of this operating system to create a file server for my home network.

9/26/2005: I have tried to install Fedora which is a distrobution from Red Hat. I installed it as a server and then configured as a Samba server. This would allow Windows Computers to access it for files. You could also store Backups from all the computers on the LAN. This would be a nice convienient way to do it as the Hard drive would hold all the backups in 1 place. It would be fast too. So far I can make the icon for the Samba server appear on the Windows XP computers in the network neighborhood and or windows XP machines by selecting the Windows Explorer and selecting the My Network Places icon and then Microsoft networks and workgroup computers. The icon should be there if the Samba client name is correct and the users are set up on the linux box.

The problem right now is that when I click the icon for the samba server I get an error message that says there is a duplicate name on the network. I may not have permission is also mentioned. I have no idea what to change as everything looks fine.
