Aprocryphan /prˈkrfæn/ Hi, my name is Chester. I'm an electrical and electronics engineering student attending university. I'm interested in Photography, Amateur Radio and Music. I believe that all information should be free and easily accessible, and I'm a big supporter of the open source movement. I love Wikipedia because it has kept me curious, and I like to help where I can. I donate to Wikipedia, the Internet Archive and the Green Party in the UK. I hail from Brighton, UK and the city has had a big impact on my politics and open-minded beliefs.

I host my own services and servers and prototype with Arduinos, Raspberry Pis and Linux based systems. Also during my free time I listen to the air waves with my radios (HF, VHF & UHF). My call sign is MØXQY. While my home station is modest, my real passion is for portable operations. You will often find me operating from high or interesting points along the South Downs or the British coastline, using an SDR for data capture and analysis. You can follow my field expeditions and find all my recordings and projects on my website: radio.chpi.ukMy Bluesky Page

Photography

A photo of my beat up 2006 Canon Powershot A640

I have a strong appreciation for the specific textures of older digital and analogue formats. My cameras are a Canon PowerShot A640 (for its distinctive CCD sensor colour) and a Minolta Weathermatic A (for 110 film). I feel like the CCD sensor in the canon (when the ISO is high enough) really mimics that analogue film grain.

My work focuses on lonely spaces and industrial infrastructure, among other things. I aim to capture the atmospheric and often solitary nature of these environments. In line with my open-source principles, I release many of my high-resolution images under Creative Commons licences so they can be used freely by the community.

Languages

Beyond engineering, I love languages and linguistics, I can understand and speak Spanish fluently, I can understand some Italian and French, but I wouldn't call myself anywhere near fluent with those. I can also read Greek, Cyrillic, and Japanese scripts. I have created some multilingual projects, such as a radio handbook website available in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Bosnian, and Slovakian. Language is a bridge between cultures and a tool for accessibility, which is why I’ve included voice recordings in multiple languages to make information more inclusive. Don't make fun of me for my accents :). I've been to 11 countries in 3 continents, my favourite city in the world is Amsterdam, in The Netherlands

Music

Radiohead have been a massively influential band for me. I am fascinated by microtonality, complex time signatures, and the physics of sound reproduction.

My taste is mostly Art Rock and Experimental Music, with a specific focus on artists who blend organic instrumentation with digital synthesis like Radiohead, Björk, Aphex Twin and Jacob Collier. Alongside atmospheric video game soundtracks (such as Outer Wilds and Undertale). I value music that explores themes of cosmic humility, existentialism, and the human condition.

Physical Archive

I am an amateur archivist of physical media. I believe the medium is part of the message, and I maintain a growing collection of Cassette tapes, Gramophone record, Minidiscs and Compact Discs. I am particularly interested in the sonic characteristics of different tape formulations (Type I, II, and III) and use my restored equipment to preserve and digitise these formats.

Rail & Transit

A photo of a British Rail class 345 at Stratford International Station

I have a deep love for heavy infrastructure and public transport systems. To me, an efficient rail network is the physical manifestation of social connection and sustainability. I love the London Underground and the Overground network.

I use my photography to document these spaces, often focusing on the "liminal" atmosphere of empty stations, the industrial geometry of the tracks, and the unique textures of the British rail network. I am a strong advocate for accessible, state-owned public transport as a vital alternative to car dependency.
