4Sight Model is a behavior heuristic created by David Straub. The Model gives people an easier way to understand how their mind works. The genesis of the design occurred from early 2015 to early 2017 when David was looking to create a "self-help mental health web site for youth experiencing adversity". After performing extensive research in psychology and the field of mental health the current approach was deemed inadequate at best.
The purpose of the 4Sight Model was to help people manage their own irrational thinking and handle the irrational behavior of others. Implicit in that goal was the need to define what appropriate behavior was so that people have a baseline to work towards as well as an ability to identify when someone's statements or actions were inappropriate. As a result, the 4Sight Model led to the development of a reference system by which adult behavior can be analyzed, thereby replacing the diagnosis system now used by therapists. However, as the Model was just a knowledge base, a system was needed to assist people with the integration of that knowledge into their daily routine. Hence, the 4Sight Process was created.
The 4Sight Process, or CORE, an acronym for Commit, Observe, Reflect and Edit, was also developed as a replacement to treatment systems currently used by therapists. In actuality, it is more of a standardized and universal approach that is used regardless of a person's thought or behavioral issues, augmenting widely-accepted current practices. Specifically, CORE builds upon cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and also dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) which is arguably the best and most popular CBT approach.
Combined, the Model and Process are, in effect, a new approach to mental healthcare. Further, they also represent a new definition for emotional intelligence and, really, also for bias, resilience and emotional wellness. The two elements together, the 4Sight System, eventually led to the creation of Emotional Alignment as a sort of branding mechanism and self-evident nomenclature. The basic concept is that when our emotions are working properly, what we feel matches what we would rationally conclude. However, when people "trust their gut" they can allow themselves to engage in irrational thought which results in conflict and inappropriate / irrational behavior.
