4040 is a guitar player, singer, performer, composer and producer

Some history

Chavdar Petkov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. His friends call him Cho Cho that spells in Bulgarian 4040. With the time 4040 became his artistic name. The natural interest in music led 4040 to the first guitar lessons at the age of 8. Five years later he became a member of the school band called later The White Rose. They performed for years in different schools and events. They also recorded several songs together that hit the local TV and radio stations. At the age of 18, 4040 was granted a scholarship with Berklee College of Music, but...he stayed in Bulgaria and started an advertising business...4040 kept playing with different groups and musicians...The following years were well spent in establishing CAS Ltd. an advertising agency (www.casbg.com)

Now

Since September 2008, 4040 is a student at Berkleemusic in Master Music Production Using Pro Tools. This takes his recording, mixing and mastering skills to a new level.

"It all started with the idea to be able to record a guitar so I can solo over it:)) then I decided to make a simple studio and compose some songs...I got a Boss BR1600 studio that worked for a while. Then... like all I do I wanted the best studio! It was called Pro Tools. I got my first MBOX2 mini and...wow this was a whole new world of options and ideas! Next I had to learn how to use it. There was no one to learn from in Bulgaria so I went to check out the Berklee College of Music and here I am."

Along with learning Pro Tools in a couple of courses 4040 studies Mixing and Mastering, Advanced Mixing and Mastering, Critical listening, Remixing with Reason, Audio Mastering Techniques and more, that gives him a confidence to plan his next steps.

"I started recording when I was 16 years old. One of my projects was to go to Berklee College of Music and I composed and recorded several instrumental songs for that. From that moment the idea of having my own studio and being able to work with it became one of my dreams..."

Studio (Sounds & Colors)

4040 Calls his studio Sounds & Colors after his dual passion in music and advertising.

"There are two main directions in my life: Music & Advertising. I have always been attracted to those two. I call them simply Sounds & Colors and my studio is the core..."

The studio equipment list is published in the News section. It is growing all the time with new plugs, instruments and techniques.

Studio work

In the moment 4040 is recording an album. All the composing, recording guitars, lead guitars, acoustic guitars, vocals, back vocals, synths, drum programming and some of the bass parts are recorded by him. Four of the songs that may become a part of the record are now available from 4040 store to listen and download.

CAS Ltd.

CAS is a full service advertising agency that 4040 establishes in 2002 in partnership with his friend Iv. The company works with brands like Adidas, Baumit, Garmin, Kirov, Nestle, Unilever. Now the company has offices in Bulgaria - Sofia and Bourgas! Some more are coming soon!

Some Philosophy?

4040 Graduated from the University of Sofia with Master of Theology. He studied the different religions, philosophies, cultures and was surprised to find out that live is very simple and the most important things are: love, family and friendship.

Do you want More?

"It is all about our desire to do....more...have more...be more...want more. It is a motivator that can help us create unbelievable things: Schools, Hospitals, Space ships, Mobile communication, MUSIC:))... The list can go forever, but the idea is to use this "MORE thing" for good.

It usually goes like this 'an example"

1. We see someone play the guitar and we like it...(we want more) 2. We want to learn (we want more) 3. We ask our parents to buy a guitar (we usually get it:)) (we want more) 4. We start playing ... we want to get better and better (we want more) 5. We spend 20 years practicing (we want more) 6. We build studio & record albums & play live...

and then.... we want MORE...

What if we stop wanting more? What shall we do? Play the same melody over and over? ...I don't think so...

It is actually so cool if we use it for GOOD as we should!"
