UnityPoint Health is a hospital network in the U.S. states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Prior to 2013, portions of the current network were known as the Iowa Health System.
History
The system began in 1993, when Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines merged, forming the state's largest provider of hospital and related health services. The organization grew to encompass eight metropolitan areas and changed its name in 2013 to reflect that it was no longer exclusive to Iowa.[1][2] In 2022, UnityPoint Health spun off Methodist, Proctor, and Pekin hospitals in Peoria, Illinois, to nonprofit Carle Health.[3]
By 2023, UnityPoint Health served nearly 8 million patient visits annually, including around 100,000 surgeries and delivering more than 20,000 babies. UnityPoint Health became the nation's fifth largest non-denominational health system.[4]
