Removed snowfall

While a source shows NOAA, those numbers cannot possibly be accurate. The snowfall lying on the ground map here http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/averages/ukmapavge.html lists London to average around 5 days per year of snow on the ground. There is NO WAY they average 18" of snow if snow is only on the ground for 5 days a year on average. New York City averages about 40 days a year with snow on the ground, and a much lower average winter temperatures, and that location only gets 26" on average. Therefore, I removed the snowfall listed in the box. Famartin (talk) 00:31, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Days with snow on the ground and snowy days are different statistics. In a cold climate, the former is typically greater than the latter, because snow falls and may well stick to the ground for months. In a mild climate, though, the latter statistic may be greater, as snow will fall and not stick at all; at least in the USA, there needs to be at least one inch for the weather station to count it as "snow-covered". I suspect the NOAA data is correct and I think this statistic should be restored so as not to give casual users the impression that snow is so rare as to be unworthy of being measured, though I'll hold off for now as I'm about to move and shouldn't really be digging into research-intensive things like this. But I will look at it soon. Soap 15:23, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I misread your post .... another sign that maybe I should pack up and get back to this later .... you said 18 inches, not 18 days. I agree that is unlikely. Still, I am leaving this up as a reminder to myself and to anyone who may be interested that ... yes, it does snow in London, even if not very often, and that we should probably have at least some indication of that. Width

I have added width settings to the document which, if not desirable, can be removed. The reason for inclusion was to avoid conflict with images on the London page and resulting white space. There is also a discussion on Talk:London on #Images_in_body_of_article. Gregkaye (talk) 10:22, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mean monthly maximum and minimum

I noticed this edit, which we removed for being unsourced. My only input is that I hope we can source the edit, because it's unlikely a vandal would type out such perfectly credible numbers. Im going to be busy for a while but I view my contribs page often and my message here serves a second purpose as a reminder to myself to check back to this when I can. In the meantime if anyone else knows a fast way to get the details of UK climate statistics please feel free to follow up onb this. Thank you, Soap 15:11, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
