Template:Userspace draft/doc

This template adds pages to Category:Userspace drafts or a dated subcategory thereof.

If transcluded on a page in the article namespace, the template outputs nothing. If found in another namespace that is not the User namespace (userspace), it adds the page to Category:Misplaced userspace drafts.

This template is added automatically to userspace drafts created via the Wikipedia:Article wizard 2.0 (the discussion page is at WT:WIZ2).

This template automatically adds pages unedited for a year to Category:Stale userspace drafts.

Usage

To use, add {{Userspace draft|date=June 2026}} to the very top of a draft in userspace (not its talk page) to produce

This template should only be used in userspace. To denote articles in the mainspace that are undergoing major edits, use {{In use}}.

Optional parameters

  • |page= allows you to specify a custom page name for where the page may be located after the draft is complete. If it isn't specified, it will default to the subpage title.
  • |newuser=no will suppress the display of "instructional wording", but will keep the links to the tools (i.e., it suppresses less than |help=no).
  • |afc=no will suppress only the display of the WP:AFC instructions at the end (i.e., it suppresses less than |help=no and less than |newuser=no).
  • |article= replace the wording "a Wikipedia article" with something else, e.g. "an essay" or "a wikiproject", to reflect the nature of a non-article draft. Using this option will also suppress features relating to the Article Creation Wizard and the submission of article drafts for review.
  • |extra= Extra text explaining, for example, what's left to do in the article.

Found in mainspace?

If the template appears on a page in mainspace, check that the content is appropriate there, if so remove the tag. Possible reasons for being tagged in mainspace:

  • Moved correctly from userspace
  • Moved incorrectly from userspace
  • Tagged incorrectly
  • Tagged prior to Userfication (strictly speaking incorrectly).
