Lead
- First sentence: To account for Ted’s ownership of the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics and other pro teams, please add “and sports team owner” after “American businessman”.
- Fifth sentence: Please update net worth to the 2026 figure of $3.9 billion.[1]
- Second paragraph: A couple of issues here: 1) This information is already found almost verbatim in the Arena Partnerships section and 2) is not a callout that’s relevant for the purpose of a lead section. Given those issues, I recommend removing this paragraph from the lead, while leaving the same information unchanged in the Arena Partnerships section, where it makes sense and is more relevant.
AOL
- First sentence: The founding year for Redgate Communications is incorrect. Please update to read “1988” per the source included here.[2]
Sports ownership
- First sentence: Recommend replacing “majority owner” with “managing partner” so there’s consistency in listing his official titles throughout the sentence.[3]

Well, in 1988, I started a company called the Redgate Communications and its core belief was that something magical was about to happen as communications pipes got bigger and words and pictures and videos got digitized and would more easily flow over those bigger pipes and that there would be services and products and really good things happening…

Arena partnership
- Please add the following sentence to the end of the Arena partnership section to add more recent information (2024):
In December 2024, the D.C. Council approved an agreement with Monumental Sports to renovate Capital One Arena. Construction began in 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2027.[1][2]
Washington Capitals
- The number of consecutive sellouts is outdated. Please update to read “588 consecutive sellouts” per the source cited here.[3]

After a unanimous vote, the D.C. Council approved a massive deal that aims to keep the Washington Capitals and Wizards sports teams in the city for decades. It comes almost exactly a year after the teams nearly moved across the Potomac. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin ultimately was not able to gather enough support in the Virginia General Assembly to finalize a deal. As part of the deal, the city will dedicate more than $500 million in public funds for a renovation to Capital One Arena. The District will buy the venue from Ted Leonsis, the owner of both sports teams, and lease it back to his company, Monumental Sports & Entertainment; keeping the teams in the city until at least 2050.

Other business
- Third paragraph, second sentence: Recommend updating the sentence with a brief addition to specify when Ted joined the American Express board of directors. Updated sentence would read as follows, with added information in bold:
In 2009, the company was sold to American Express; Leonsis is now on the board of directors at American Express , having joined in 2010.[1]
Personal life
- Final sentence: Sentence claims that Leonsis was on Georgetown’s board of directors from 2008-2009, but he was actually on Georgetown’s board of directors AND board of regents during that timeframe.[2] Please update sentence to read (added language in bold):
He was on the board of directors and board of regents for Georgetown University in 2008–2009.

Mention in Epstein survivor diary
Shouldn't we mention that Leonsis is mentioned on page 27 of a diary of a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein's child sex trafficking operation (EFTA02731459)? Source: https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%2012/EFTA02731433.pdf

Leonsis is also mentioned on page 13 of this diary by the same survivor (EFTA02731353). Source: https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%2012/EFTA02731341.pdf
The decoded version of the coded handwritten text of this second passage (which appears to be in reference to an abortion or miscarriage, done without the presence of a physician) reads as follows:
- I think I am going to break! Why would they allow Mr. Leonsis wait this long? Why would he bring a friend and make a video? I am so broken and the procedure was so painful and blood all over the sheets. Can't play this "game" anymore. I have to ask Ghislaine for help. if anyone can make it stop it would be her? She was so scared because I got so sick and was burning up with fever. She put me in freezing cold shower! I can't do this!
