No mention of the invention?
When searching via Google Search the query "when was sleeping invented," News-Medical.net's article on the history of sleep appears with the highlighted segment "Around 450 BC." Where would this best be placed in the Sleep article? Xan ✨ talk 21:17, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sleep was not "invented" or "discovered" so that kind of wording would be inappropriate. A history section might be good (like there is for blood) that just covers science history related to our understanding of sleep. D1551D3N7 (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Biased writing
"Sleep health can be improved through implementing good sleep hygiene habits. Having good sleep hygiene can help to improve your physical and mental health by providing your body with the necessary rejuvenation only restful sleep can provide. Some ways to improve sleep health include going to sleep at consistent times every night, avoiding any electronic devices such as televisions in the bedroom, getting adequate exercise throughout your day, and avoiding caffeine in the hours before going to sleep. Another way to greatly improve sleep hygiene is by creating a peaceful and relaxing sleep environment. Sleeping in a dark and clean room with things like a white noise maker can help facilitate restful sleep."
This paragraph reads like an advertisement or medical advice rather than encyclopedic information. Shouldn't it be removed? 72.70.58.51 (talk) 23:38, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed; I would expect something-something decibells or even a long example: something something inches of insulation are used in [district], located near [highway XXX]. Speaking of highways and engine roars: I wonder, how strong is the soundproofing in towns near Highway 666 (Highway 491 in XXI century)... 81.89.66.133 (talk) 12:00, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Why do we sleepwalk?
The exact cause of sleepwalking is unknown, but it seems to run in families. You're more likely to sleepwalk if other members of your close family have or had sleepwalking behaviours or night terrors. The following things can trigger sleepwalking or make it worse: not getting enough sleep. Sleepwalking usually isn't serious. But people who sleepwalk are at high risk for injury from things like falling down stairs, jumping out of windows, sleep driving, eating and cooking in sleep. There are even recorded instances where people became violent while sleepwalking. Fortunately, violent behavior is very rare. Also, sleepwalkers' eyes are open, but they don't see the same way they do when they're awake. Often, they think they're in different rooms of the house or different places altogether. After sleepwalking episodes, they probably won't remember ever having done it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quanses1121 (talk • contribs) 01:32, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- WP:NOTFORUM - propose a statement to improve the article and provide a WP:RS source. Zefr (talk) 01:41, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Zefr Well, hello there!
- I have an idea: make a little section on sleepwalking. Currently, it's on'y mentioned briefly... just once.
- Alternatively, let's try to expand the sleep hygiene section some day (inspired by this line: "The following things can trigger sleepwalking or make it worse: not getting enough sleep.") 81.89.66.133 (talk) 11:45, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
ctrl+f "violation" - 0 found
I've tried to look up whether one's violations 'ay/'an ruin a bunch of others' sleep. Context: some pitbikers in my area are night-noisy; which is... quite a test to my composure, to say the least. 81.89.66.133 (talk) 11:37, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Therefore: I would recomment to add a section how awful, community-quarreling, splash-damaging it is for one's district to have a noisy biker, let alone illegal street racing tuner with exuberant take on own vehicle's exhaust. 81.89.66.133 (talk) 11:38, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
This Article is about Human Sleep
This article should be titled "Human Sleep", and the "Sleep in Animals" article should be simply titled "Sleep". Ericjs (talk) 02:39, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

Sleeping Wikipedia animation in the upper right hand corner
Out of curiousity, where's the code that produces this? I can't find it. Prezbo (talk) 22:54, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Unsolved problem
The article doesn't provide any citations for the claim that the function of sleep is an "unsolved problem in biology". ~2026-23657-02 (talk) 20:52, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- I would think it is the source from this line: "The diverse purposes and mechanisms of sleep are the subject of substantial ongoing research.", namely this, probably the one by Giulio Tononi on "Why Do We Sleep?". Similar article from 2014: [2]. But I guess he solved it [3] [4] and now it is "a widely accepted model" [5]. So no longer unsolved. The other things from List of unsolved problems in biology, like dreaming and anesthesia, I think are also not really questions anymore. Mathnerd314159 (talk) 02:31, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
