Talk:RAF Balloon Command

Squadron 1

I have been told that the First Squadron of the RAF (then part of the Army) was created in WW I exclusively for balloons. I have not yet found corroboration. - Kittybrewster (talk) 12:09, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Insignia

The Balloon Command insignia used on this page is clearly a poor photoshop, and is taken directly from an unofficial website which would appear to have created it: www.rafweb.org/Cmd_H3.htm. It may resemble the original insignia, but I can find no corroboration, and I highly doubt the RAF would have used an image of a Montgolfier balloon in this way. As a result, I intend to remove the insignia pending further references. - the1james 16:36, 28 Mary 2014 (UTC)

Although not an official website rafweb is a well regarded site and unlikely to make a mistake like show the wrong badge. A quick google search indicates that others think this is the correct badge for Balloon Command, including the RAF at http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcms/mediafiles/0000CE89_1143_EC82_2EEE74A84008C4B4.pdf perhaps you should consider putting it back. I also hold rafweb in high regard. I have restored the badge until there is a consensus to replace it with something else. Dormskirk (talk) 21:29, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
