Set vs. subset problem with the introductory paragraph.
There is a set vs. subset logic problem which is currently making the introductory paragraph inaccurate.
People are detained in both prisons (P) and jails J), so both of these can be loosely referred to as detention facilities (D), however saying that "all jails are prisons" (P)=(J) is a false statement. Likewise, saying that "all prisons are jails" is false.
Even if you add a regional modifier, a 'city jail' or a 'county jail' is not the same as a 'city prison' or a 'county prison' (not even when a prison is named after the city or county in which it is located).
Furthermore, while Jails are PRIMARILY pre-trial detainment facilities, prisons are not.
For a prison to serve as a pre-trial detainment facility, the inmate must have already been convicted of another crime and must still be imprisoned (incarcerated) for that other crime, so the prison inmate is primarily a post-trial (and post-conviction) detainee, and is only incidentally a pre-trial detainee for additional crimes. - I agree with your statement that not all jails are prisons and not all prisons are jails. But I am not sure I see that in the introduction, but I will check on that. WikiGrower1 (talk) 01:04, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- I have checked and have seen prison and also known as jail. I’m wondering if we should delete that part. But on the other hand people use it interchangeably. WikiGrower1 (talk) 01:06, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

- Did you read the edit summary editor Meters (talk · contribs) provided when they reverted your changes? The material uses "overly close paraphrasing that introduces grammar and other errors". I concur with that judgement. You cannot take an original source's content, change one or two words, then publish it here - it's a copyright violation. All source content needs to be interpreted in your own words, accurately and clearly, before being added to the encyclopedia. The grammar, syntax, and construction, and formatting of the content that was added is very poor, and not encyclopedic. May I ask if you are a native english speaker? If this is a difficulty with the language, please ask for appropriate help - here on the talk page - in crafting content that's appropriate for the public encyclopedia.
- Always keep in mind: this is a public encyclopedia, and we need to present correct information, sourced appropriately, and written clearly, so that our readers can understand the content. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 00:04, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- WikiGrower1, there's some useful information in those sources, but we cannot use it as is. When your block ends, please do not restore it again without summarizing it in your own words, and in grammatical English. Meters (talk) 06:02, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

- What the heck is going on? I am not sure why this discusiion is going on but it needs to stop. I request an administrator stop this discussion and stop it from history because I think it might be doing harm. Discrimination is real222 (talk) 14:51, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
