Not a "password"
While this may seem like a password, in reality it is not the same since many devices on the network will use this key. A password is usually associated with one device/individual. Other aspects of a PSK (pre-shared key) is that it is usually much longer than a standard password. PSK's are usually configured with a 256-bit key for WPA2 wireless access. In addition, a password is usually entered at the beginning of a session, while a PSK is entered only once in each device (usually a wireless Access Point or Router and a computer).
Typically, a password will expire after a certain timeframe. Pre-Shared Keys are not usually set to expire. However, since the pre-shared key is known by a number of individuals, changes may be required as individuals change jobs or are terminated.
Pre-shared keys are not usually used in the Enterprise as a result of the changes that may be required over time. A RADIUS server is used with appropriate certificates to authenticate users.
