Talk:Post-tetanic potentiation

Wrong topic

The explanation for PTP is incorrect here, build up of Ca++ is the cause for short-term facilitation (lasting less than 1 second). PTP is caused by and increased number of docked readily releasable vesicles, usually following short-term depression. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.240.4.66 (talk) 03:23, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Tetanic stimulation

The topic of this page is extremely linked the tetanic potentiation itself. The content of this page could be migrated to Tetanic stimulation, as a consequence of the stimulation. Nicolas Le Novère (talk) 11:13, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This describes Facilitation, not PTP.mlr (talk) 01:27, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Agree, this is Facilitation not PTP. PTP follows a close series of incoming stimulating signals that are mediated by opening of input ion channels and the gradual diffusion away of the excess ion concentration. PTP lasts for several minutes and is thought to correspond to observed short term memory enhancement. The process described in this article of enhanced signal size mediated by Ca++ ion concetratons following short-spaced consecutive signals to a neuron is known as facilitation and has no lasting effects.
