Talk:Modern Chaldeans
Modern Chaldeans should not redirect to Chaldean Catholic Church
I do not believe that Modern Chaldeans should redirect to Chaldean Catholic Church.
The scope of a page about modern Chaldeans is broader than the scope of a page about a specific church. A people/community article would address modern identity, history, language, diaspora, communal institutions, and denominational diversity. By contrast, Chaldean Catholic Church is specifically an article about one church body, its hierarchy, history, liturgy, and relationship with Rome.
Even if many or most modern Chaldeans are historically associated with the Chaldean Catholic tradition, that does not make the two topics identical. Not all modern Chaldeans practice the Chaldean Catholic rite of Catholicism, and not all people who identify as Chaldean are practicing Catholics. Some identify as Chaldean in an ethnic, familial, cultural, linguistic, or communal sense, including people who are secular, non-practicing, or affiliated with other Christian congregations.
For that reason, redirecting Modern Chaldeans to Chaldean Catholic Church would collapse a people/community topic into a church topic and would not accurately reflect the broader subject. If editors believe the title or scope should be refined, that can be discussed, but a standalone article or draft about modern Chaldeans seems more appropriate than a redirect to the church article.
A better approach would be to allow a separate page covering the modern community, while presenting any disputed identity questions neutrally and with proper sourcing. ~2026-20484-10 (talk) 23:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
